Any pet owner who has looked online for an apartment or home rental knows to immediately look for those two golden words: “pets welcome.” A recent study from Zillow might make it a bit easier for dog lovers to find their perfect rental, rounding up the cities with the most dog-friendly listings. Texas locales came out on top, with Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio taking the first three spots. Check out the full list.

Whether you’re a current caregiver or looking to support someone who is, a new resource from Uber should be on your radar as a tool that could make navigating logistics a little easier. Meet Uber Caregiver: a service launching this summer that will allow caregivers to coordinate rides to doctor’s appointments for their care recipient and use health insurance benefits to pay. Uber Health lead engineer Jeremy Hintz was inspired to create the app feature based on personal experience, as his mother stepped in as his grandparents’ primary caregiver. “All this actually came out of a phone conversation I was having with my mom about the things she needed help with day-to-day,” Hintz told Today. “We have Uber and Uber Eats; why can’t we tap into health care benefits, too?” Find out more about how the service works and the up-and-coming plans to expand it, which include allowing caregivers to manage deliveries of groceries and over-the-counter items.

Bumblebees Are Hard Workers, but Are They Team Players? Study Suggests Yes
Olli Loukola
Happy World Bee Day! It’s a well known fact that these insects are unbee-lievable workers (sorry) and vital contributors to healthy ecosystems, and a recent study found that they also show signs of being“master collaborators.” To test bumblebees’ teamwork skills, researchers set up different challenges for them to get nectar, including pushing a Lego block (which you can watch a video of here) and opening a door at the end of a small corridor (watch here). The bees were also separated either into a control group in which they worked alone or into another group in which they worked with a partner. Here’s what happened: When bees trained with a partner, they seemed to be influenced by each other and adjusted their actions based on the fellow bee. For example, if the bee noticed their partner getting delayed, they turned around and appeared to wait until they had the backup necessary to help accomplish their task. Per lead author Olli Loukola, these findings “challenge conventional notions of insects,” showing that small-brained creatures can work toward a common goal. Loukola added in a statement: “The coolest part of this work is that it clearly demonstrates that bumblebee cooperation is socially influenced, and not just driven by individual efforts.”

Inside the Innovative World of Sustainable Clothing Materials

As shopping for pre-owned clothes is becoming more popular as a way to help the environment, so is the concept of making more eco-conscious clothing in the first place. From seaweed-based plastic to fabrics made from seafood waste and invasive species, there’s no shortage of unique materials innovators are experimenting with in hopes of making the fashion industry more sustainable. “We have different methodologies of doing it, but … whether that’s fiber made from seaweed or polyester spun in a different way that’s biodegradable, we’re all trying to do the same thing — make the planet a better place,” Aarav Chavda told The Washington Post. Chanvda is the co-founder of Inversa Leathers, which is on a mission to curb the non-native fish problem by converting the animals’ skin into sustainable leather. Uyen Tran, the founder of TômTex, grew up in a hotspot for textiles manufacturing in Vietnam and was inspired by her upbringing to make fashion less wasteful. Her company’s fully biodegradable fabrics (seen above) are derived from shrimp shells and mushrooms. “Waste is something that humans created,” she said. “For me, if we create something, it should biodegrade and decompose as nutrients back to the soil, so animals can feed on it, a tree can grow on it.”
