Get Your Swatches: These Trendy Paint Colors Are Setting the Tone for 2025
Sherwin-Williams
It looks like 2025 will be the year of earthy hues — at least according to Sherwin-Williams. The paint brand changed up its annual color prediction, releasing its first-ever Color Capsule of the Year. Rather than just one color of the year, the collection includes nine shades, featuring warm browns, soft whites, and other calming hues with names to match. The idea is to give “a little something for everybody,” Sue Wadden, Sherwin-Williams’ director of color marketing, told Architectural Digest. She added: “We’re using this as an opportunity to celebrate nine colors, which we feel like are all gorgeous, on-trend hues.” Other companies, like Benjamin Moore and Dunn-Edwards, have also released their picks for the 2025 color of the year, and they all indicate a shift away from cool neutrals toward cozy, earthy tones: Check ’em out.

Très Bon! Louisiana and France Continue French Immersion School Program

In magnifique news for students in Louisiana, France has renewed an agreement to send internationally recruited teachers to work in French immersion schools across the Pelican State. For decades, the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana has been committed to preserving French language and culture through immersion programs — with 155 international teachers currently working in 14 parishes and over 40 schools. Earlier this month, Sen. Jeremy Stine and Ronnie Morris, president of Louisiana’s state board of education, signed an agreement with French officials to extend the partnership for another four years. The teachers are from France and other French-speaking countries (such as Canada, Senegal, and Belgium) and receive J-1 visitor visas. In turn, students receive the gift of language learning and the many benefits that come along with that, including improved academic performance and focus, more creativity, and stronger communication skills.

How Tibetan Women Have Evolved to Thrive in High-Altitude Environments
Altitude sickness can affect even the fittest individuals (hikers, skiers, and bikers likely know this well). But women who live on the high Tibetan plateau seem to thrive in the thin air. For over 10,000 years, a group of Tibetan women have successfully lived in a low-oxygen environment located around 14,000 feet above sea level. How did they adapt to a setting that others would struggle in? That’s what a team of researchers recently sought to find out. “Understanding how populations like these adapt gives us a better grasp of the processes of human evolution,” lead study author Cynthia Beall said in a press release. The research team collected data from417 Tibetan women aged 46 to 86 who live between 12,000 and 14,000 feet above sea level. After studying their reproductive histories, physiological measurements, DNA samples, and lifestyles, they found the women who had the most children (a key measure of evolutionary fitness) had higher blood oxygen saturation. This allows for more efficient oxygen delivery to cells without increasing blood viscosity and, therefore, prevents heart strain. “This is a case of ongoing natural selection,” explained Beall. “Tibetan women have evolved in a way that balances the body’s oxygen needs without overworking the heart.”

Nine years ago, Wanda Dench went viral for accidentally inviting a stranger, Jamal Hinton, to her Thanksgiving dinner and offering him a seat at her table anyway. The unlikely duo has been celebrating the holiday together ever since. This year, the tradition is taking on an extra meaningful purpose as Dench was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. “I’ve learned a lot of life’s lessons through it all, but what I want to stress most of all is just because you may be older, we still have a life to live,” she said in a statement shared on social media.

With the third Paddington movie landing in U.K. theaters this fall (and U.S. theaters in January), the beloved bear has been hitting the red carpet, as you can see. Rob Silva, co-producer of the upcoming film, also recently revealed that Paddington, who hails from “darkest Peru,” has officially been issued a U.K. passport. “We wrote to the Home Office asking if we could get a replica, and they actually issued Paddington with an official passport — there’s only one of these,” Silva told Radio Times. “You wouldn’t think the Home Office would have a sense of humor, but under official observations, they’ve just listed him as ‘Bear.’”
