Brad Stulberg Breaks Down “Rugged Flexibility,” a Nuanced Way to Approach Change

Change is constant. We move; we get new jobs; we lose people we love. From birth, the fault lines of our lives are continuously under pressure, shaking us up just when we believe we’re standing on solid ground. You’d think with all this exposure, the way we handle change would be streamlined — that we’d always choose the healthiest approach. But do we? That’s a topic author Brad Stulberg was prompted to investigate after a pile-on of personal changes a few years back, a string of transitions that coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview with Nice News, Stulberg recounts how he was struck by the way the news cycle at the time seemed to be preoccupied with things returning to “normal.” He started considering how he’d reacted to the recent upheavals in his own life in the preceding five years — and how much time so many of us spend reaching for the way things were before we experienced a serious change. That thought process led him to developa new model for approaching instability: rugged flexibility. Stulberg shares ways to put the mindset into practice, including thinking of your identity like a house and asking yourself guiding questions when faced with change.

The World Cup Is Getting Its First-Ever Halftime Show

Halftime shows have long been associated with American football — and soon, that will also be the case for the other football. This week, FIFA announced that for the first time, the 2026 Men’s World Cup will feature its own Super Bowl-style halftime show. “This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino wrote on Instagram, using the hashtag #FootballUnitesTheWorld. The final match of the tournament, set to be hosted at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, is still over a year away. But Infantino peeled back the curtain a bit, sharing that the show will be held in association with the advocacy group Global Citizen and that Coldplay will help put together a list of artists. Whether or not front man Chris Martin will take the stage is still TBD. Also TBD: if the show will be allowed to exceed the 15-minute timeframe for halftime breaks outlined in the International Football Association Board rules. Let the countdown to July 19, 2026, begin!

Conservation Efforts Have Helped the Rarest Gray Wolf Subspecies Bounce Back

Every winter, wildlife managers fan across New Mexico and Arizona to tally the number of Mexican gray wolves in the region. The annual event helps monitor the country’s rarest subspecies of gray wolves — and the latest numbers show that the small (but mighty) population is on the upswing. Counters tallied 286 Mexican gray wolves in the wild, the Associated Press reports. Not only is this an 11% boost over last year, but it also marks the ninth consecutive year of population growth. The milestone is decades in the making, as conservation efforts have been underway since the mid-1970s to save the species from the brink of extinction through wolf reintroduction programs, captive breeding, enhanced protections, and more. Another notable number from the recent count: 27 Mexican wolf pups were fostered in 2024. Fostered pups are baby wolves bred in captivity and then placed in the wild to be raised by other wolf packs — an effort to help increase wolf numbers and improve genetic diversity.

Céline Dion provided fans at a recent TGL golf match with a mini performance of her hit My Heart Will Go On — but she updated the lyrics a bit to fit the sport. “Near, far, wherever you are,” she sang after ESPN reporter Marty Smith asked her which of her songs best described her golf game. Dion then encouraged Smith to join her, continuing: “I believe that my ball will go on.” The camera cut to TGL co-founder Tiger Woods, who was smiling ear to ear at Dion and Smith’s rendition of the tune. Later, the pro golfer and iconic singer (who was attending the match with her three sons) shared a moment together, pictured here.
