Girl Scout Cookies are back! The highly anticipated season kicked off this week and will run through April, so you have some time to stock up on Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, and all the other iconic cookie flavors.

Though there are no new releases this year, the national Girl Scout organization is hoping sellers and buyers alike will rally around the 2024 theme, “Unbox the Future.” Per a press release, the theme “aims to remove social barriers that often keep girls boxed in.”

“When people buy Girl Scout Cookies, they’re buying so much more than cookies. Every package of Girl Scout Cookies sold puts girls one step closer to making real change in their own futures, communities, and the world,” said Chief Revenue Officer Wendy Lou. “Girls break expectations through the power of the cookie program and open a host of possibilities beyond the box.”

Now, onto the most important question: How can you fill your pantry with boxes this year? If you know a Girl Scout, you can ask her if she’s taking orders. If you don’t, use the Girl Scout Cookie Finder (linked below) to find a booth near you. And starting Feb. 16, you can also order them online to be delivered directly to your door.

This App Could Help Tinnitus Sufferers Find Relief — And It’s Available to Trial Now

Audiologist Fabrice Bardy’s research on tinnitus goes beyond scientific interest — he’s one of the roughly 740 million adults around the world who suffer from the condition. While tinnitus has no cure, there are ways to manage it, and Bardy is working to make those treatments more accessible with his app, MindEar.

“One of the most common misconceptions about tinnitus is that there is nothing you can do about it; that you just have to live with it. This is simply not true,” he said in a statement. “Professional help from those with expertise in tinnitus support can reduce the fear and anxiety attached to the sound patients experience.”

Cognitive behavioral therapy is among the most effective ways to ease tinnitus, but it can be costly and difficult to access. MindEar combines cognitive behavioral therapy with mindfulness, relaxation exercises, and sound therapy.

In a recent study of the app, two-thirds of participants saw improvement after 16 weeks — a timeline that was shortened to eight weeks for trial participants who also had access to an online psychologist. “What we want to do is empower people to regain control,” Bardy added in an interview with The Guardian.

Scientific First: A Silky Shark Regenerated Its Dorsal Fin After an Injury

A researcher has documented the first known case of a silky shark regenerating its dorsal fin following an injury. Chelsea Black was tracking 10 silky sharks in Jupiter, Florida, via satellite tags in the summer of 2022 when an undersea photographer alerted her to one animal in the group that had its tag cut out — creating a large wound in the dorsal fin.

Black didn’t expect to see the shark again, given that the tag was removed. But about a year later, some divers spotted it, and this time it looked quite different. Its wound had healed and the injured fin was about 10.7% larger than when Black first saw it, meaning new tissue had regenerated.

“Previously, dorsal fin regeneration has been documented only one other time in a shark — a whale shark in the Indian Ocean in 2006,” she wrote for Phys.org. “While other marine animals, such as starfish or crabs, are known for their regenerative limb capabilities, this phenomenon in sharks, to scientists’ knowledge, is rare.”

Beyond the contributions to the study of shark wound healing, Black noted that her studyexemplifies the power of collaboration between researchers and the public, including photographers and divers, to expand the scope of research studies and bridge the gap between science and society.”

Monday marked what would have been David Bowie’s 77th birthday, and the city of Paris honored that in a very special way: by naming a street after the late musician. “It’s a city he really liked, it’s a city with museums, it’s a city with nightclubs, it’s everything he loved,” a journalist who knew Bowie told CNN affiliate BFMTV at the unveiling of the “Rue David Bowie” street sign. “He was someone who loved to work on himself, who knew all of the French writers, the philosophers and all of that. So he felt very at home in Paris.” Click above to scroll through a selection of images of Bowie visiting and performing in the City of Light. (Photo Credit: Kevin Mazur/WireImage via Getty Images)
